The World’s Best Cornbread — Cathy’s Country Cornbread

I love (love, love, love) using my iron skillet at home!  Yesterday, a friend of mine on Facebook shared her own recipe for making cornbread in her skillet… and so I asked begged for her permission to share with you all!  Thankfully, she caved in and said, “yes”!!! 🙂 Submitted by Cathy Page: “I have been on a mission to discover the world’s best cornbread. After reading a bunch of recipes and doing a little experimenting I think I have found it. This is my own concoction. It always scares the kids a little bit when I experiment like this but they liked this one.” Cathy’s Country Cornbread (It’s not…

Day 31 – Stop the Stinking Thinking – God Wants to Use You!

Day 31 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” II Cor. 10:5 kjv It’s time to STOP the “stinking thinking“… I have to admit, this is a hard one for me.  Satan likes to remind me of my past failures and all my flaws. He rubs my past failures in my face often. These thoughts are certainly not from God. Dwelling on our flaws and past failures hinder us from being used of God like we could be because we get so focused on our “shortcomings“.  We begin to believe that…

Day 30 – It's Me, Oh Lord, Standing in the Need of Prayer

Day 30!  Wow, only 10 days left… I didn’t know if I would have enough to say to keep blogging about one topic for that long…we’ll seeeee 10 days from now?? 😉 Ever feel guilty about praying for yourself?  It’s true that our prayers should be directed toward praising God and then praying for others.  But, we’ve also got to pray for ourselves. At times, we really need a LOT of prayer.  God instructs us to, “Call unto me“… “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3 His promise is that “I will ANSWER thee”… “and shew…

    Day 29 – Oh, Don't Look Back!

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 kjv Today I chose the verse above because it’s my mom’s life verse.  Before beginning my second grade year in school, God had called my dad to preach.  We sold many of our possessions and moved to Springfield, MO into a trailer park so that my dad could attend Bible college. When my mother chose Luke 9:62 as her life’s verse, she realized that there’s no looking back when you make a commitment to serve the Lord.  The possessions, the job position, or whatever…

Day 28 – When to STOP Praying!

“Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” Proverbs 3:28 kjv   Today’s prayer thought is actually a thought stolen from yesterday’s reading…and I felt compelled to share it. There is a time when we need to actually stop praying and “ACT“.  Praying for someone’s need, while having “the answer” sit right beside you, is not the time to get on your knees and pray that someone “else” take care of their need. Too many church members sit in their pews and pray that God will find a Sunday school teacher for the second grade class.  Or…
