I Stand Amazed at God’s Goodness

Guest Post by Mary Sparks, Pastor’s Wife, Joplin, Missouri Count your blessings, name them one by one….. Have you had one today? two? three? more? Stop and just think about those “little things” that happen each day that we take for granted. Did the red light stop you and found you waiting? Perhaps you missed an accident ahead that you might have been in had not the light turned red. And how about the food you eat each day? The farmer labored hard to raise that crop, to harvest it, and then to bring it to market, just so that they could supply the supermarket, and thereby you have food…

A Lesson From David on How to Present Ourselves Before God

Psalm 40 has been a real blessing to me this week.  As I discussed this chapter with my sons, I explained how David set a good example for us on how to present ourselves in prayer to the Lord. To keep my devotional short, I will not be discussing every verse, but there are a few Bible verses from this chapter that I specifically wanted to share with you… 1. David Dedicates Praise to God We should come before God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise (Psalm 100:4). In Psalm 40, we see that David dedicates some of his psalm to expressing his praise to God. “Many, O LORD my God, are thy…

Pray for America – Every Time You See Our USA Flag

We’re having a great Sunday here today.  The weather is perfect for a July summer day. On the way to church I saw a HUGE, American flag waving in the wind.  It was so beautiful and grand! I prayed for America right away….and decided right then in there….every time I see our USA flag I’m going to pray for America! Prayer changes things! Would you launch that mission with me? *Pin on Pinterest:  http://www.pinterest.com/pin/138204282290014924/ Ask your children to get involved.  Ask them to remind your family to say a quick prayer for America every time they see a flag. Pray for our leaders, too.  Pray that God grants them wisdom…

Day 40 – Break Up Your Fallow Ground: For It Is Time to Seek the Lord

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12 kjv Today is the last day of my 4o Day Prayer Challenge which included focusing more on prayer and blogging about prayer here at HCH.  But, today is not the end of my prayer journey, but rather, the beginning.  I’ve learned a lot by centering my focus on one area of my life that needed more attention. In our busy society, it’s hard to stay focused; we have so much going on in our lives.  Try challenging yourself to…

Day 39 – The Fifty Cent Prayer

Day 39 “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” I Peter 5:7 kjv Today, I thought I’s share a guest blog post that I did for the author, Penny Zeller (http://pennyzeller.wordpress.com), back in March 2011. Penny is a very sweet lady; I enjoy her Facebook posts here: (https://www.facebook.com/pennyzellerbooks) Anyway, it seems like a fitting thing to share as I come toward the end of my 40 day prayer challenge.  It’s about the very beginnings of my prayer life… the first two prayers answered in college. ______________________________ I can still remember the day I was dropped off and abandoned by my parents. Couldn’t they see that I…
