Are You Making this Huge Mistake? (Devotional)

The Sadducees presented Jesus with a perplexing question… If a man had no children and then died, leaving his brother to take her to wife — the second and third brother also took her to wife and died – with ALL seven brothers having been married to this woman, which one would she be married to in the resurrection? (Matthew 22:23-29) Jesus didn’t respond with a generous explanation to appease their curiosity, He called them out! He responded directly to them that they were in error. There were two basic reasons why they asked such a ridiculous question: They didn’t know the Scriptures. They didn’t know the power of God.…

    Choose Happy

Guest post by Kathy McCullough, Pastor’s Wife in Arkansas City, Kansas One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is open my curtains; except for the summer when it is especially hot. Though I hate keeping my curtains shut in the middle of the day, I will keep them closed to help keep the heat out when the sun is shining into that particular window. As soon as the sun shifts, those curtains are opened! When I do open my curtains, I often will think or say, “I am going to let the ‘Happy Light’ in.” A bright room makes me think of cheerfulness.…

How to Do Everything the Right Way

Ah… it’s morning. A fresh, new day. Time to arrange the bed sheets in an nice, orderly fashion. Some mornings the results impress me, other days not so much. The bathroom is my favorite place to head first thing in the morning. There’s something undesirable splattered around the base of the toilet. Let me grab the cleaning spray and wipe up that mess. Next, I head toward the kitchen sink… even though I pay diligence to washing my dishes, there’s always items that someone places in there after the dishwater has been tossed.  I fill the sink with fresh dishwater and let the dishes soak a bit as I make…

Start Over… Back to the Beginning

In the beginning… it all started with God. God created the heavens and the earth. A perfect, beautiful world was created for us. And God saw that everything He made was very good. (Genesis 1:31) It wasn’t long until man yielded to temptation and sinned.  Was it murder that caused Adam and Eve their first downfall?  No.  Was it a terrible lie that they told? No. It was an act of disobedience of eating from the tree which God had told them was completely off limits.  (Genesis 2:17) Adam and Eve had many good choices from delicious fruit trees, but obviously they weren’t content with only those choices. Let’s not…

Why We Feel the Backlash from the World…

This verse, John 7:7, drew my attention last week.  Jesus made it clear why the world hates Him. Also, as Christians, it’s really God (Jesus Christ) that they hate, whom we represent. The reason for their hatred is evident.  People don’t want to believe in God (Jesus Christ) because His light reveals their darkness. Their sin. If people can label themselves as atheists, they won’t have to feel accountable for their sin. Those that believe in evolution work hard to prove their theories so that they can also live the way they want to live without feeling accountable to God. Be a Christian that’s proud to represent the righteousness of…
