Choose Happy

One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is open my curtains; except for the summer when it is especially hot. Though I hate keeping my curtains shut in the middle of the day, I will keep them closed to help keep the heat out when the sun is shining into that particular window.

As soon as the sun shifts, those curtains are opened! When I do open my curtains, I often will think or say, “I am going to let the ‘Happy Light’ in.” A bright room makes me think of cheerfulness. This is true about bright colors. The other day I had a bright coral colored shirt on and my husband told me that he liked it. I said that I liked it, too, because it is a bright, happy color.

God tells us in Matthew 5:14 KJV, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

Light represents God in the Bible and God wants us to be cheerful, happy (joyful) people. A happy person even at your workplace or at the store or anywhere is not really ‘hid’—they usually stand out. I have to work at putting a smile on my face; my normal look on my face without a smile looks too serious–almost mad. So I often work at keeping a pleasant smiling face.

Through the years, I have often noticed that very Spiritual, happy people do not always ‘show’ that on their faces. I easily laugh, but I have to work at keeping a smile on my face because Christians should be bright, happy people. A happy person will usually be a friendlier person, also.

A friend of mine often puts little stories on Facebook. She always puts at the end of her story, “Choose Happy”, though her stories don’t always represent a happy situation. We CAN CHOOSE to be happy. We are going to go through sad trials in our lives, but the Bible does say…

“Rejoice in the Lord always, and AGAIN, I say rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4 KJV) So…….CHOOSE HAPPY!

When we are going through hard times we can always look back and see how God has always been with us through these times. He promises to never leave nor forsake us. When I think of how God knows right where I am and everything that I am going through and that He is more than able to meet my needs, it is comfort to my soul. He sees every tear we cry. So when we are going through trials just look back and see how far He has already brought us and it gives us strength to keep pressing on.

Alley, so true! Looking back on how much God has done for us in the past a sure-fire way to keep the right attitude in the present. We can choose “happy” easier when we reflect on God’s goodness!! 🙂
