All Bible verses in this devotional are referenced from the (KJV) King James Bible.
The word, ONLY, makes a distinctive difference in a sentence. The dictionary defines ONLY as: “No one or nothing more besides; solely or exclusively.”
The word, “ONLY,” insinuates a limitation, which can imply a good or bad situation.
If I say that I “only” have to work three hours today instead of eight, that implies a positive outlook.
But, if I say that I “only” have three dollars left, yet I need eight to purchase my meal, that implies a negative limitation.
When I say that the Lord Jesus (who was God in the flesh, John 1:14) is the ONLY God I will serve, the world will view me as narrow-minded, with a limited view – especially due to the false teaching that there are many ways to get to Heaven.
But my narrow-minded limitation is EVERYTHING POSITIVE!!
Who you choose to serve will be a blessing or a curse. Take heed to the Word of God!
There are ONLY 250 instances of the word “ONLY” in our KJV Bible. That’s actually not a huge number, given the fact that there are 783,137 words in our Bible.
Today, I hope you will look at the word ONLY in a positive new light…
I’m sharing just a few instances that define the word “ONLY” in view of why I serve the ONLY TRUE LIVING GOD!
Exodus 22:20 – “He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD ONLY, he shall be utterly destroyed.”
Deuteronomy 4:9 – “ONLY take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;”
1st Samuel 7:4 – “Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD ONLY.”
1st Samuel 12:24 – “ONLY fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.”
2nd Kings 19:19 – “Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou ONLY.”
1st Chronicles 22:12 – “ONLY the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.”
2nd Chronicles 6:30 – “Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou ONLY knowest the hearts of the children of men:”
2nd Chronicles 33:17 – “Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God ONLY.”
Psalms 4:8 – “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, ONLY makest me dwell in safety.”
Psalms 62:2 – “He ONLY is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Psalms 62:5 – “My soul, wait thou ONLY upon God; for my expectation is from him.”
Psalms 62:6 – “He ONLY is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.”
Psalms 71:16 – “I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine ONLY.”
Psalms 72:18 – “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who ONLY doeth wondrous things.”
Isaiah 26:13 – “O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee ONLY will we make mention of thy name.”
Isaiah 37:20 – “Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou ONLY.”
Jesus stressed to Satan the importance of worshipping ONLY the Lord God…
Matthew 4:10 – “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him ONLY shalt thou serve.”
Luke 4:8 – “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him ONLY shalt thou serve.”
It’s very important to know that it’s ONLY through Jesus that we obtain Heaven’s entrance and eternal life…
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:18 – “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the ONLY begotten Son of God.”
John 14:6 – “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: NO man cometh unto the Father, BUT by me.”
John 17:3 – “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the ONLY true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
1 John 4:9 – “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his ONLY begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”
And the word, ONLY, also means we are not limited, but ALL — each ONE of us — are included in salvation’s plan…
Romans 9:24 – “Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews ONLY, but also of the Gentiles”
1st John 2:2 – “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours ONLY, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
ONLY God, our Heavenly Father, knows when Jesus will be returning, but time is limited as we can see the time is fast approaching…
Matthew 24:36 – “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father ONLY.”
A crown of righteousness is reserved not ONLY for the heroes of faith that we’ve read about in the Bible…
A crown of righteousness is available to ALL those who strive to live a righteous life and who faithfully serve ONLY the true Lord God above.
So today, let’s be faithful (dependable, loyal, trustworthy) children of God!
2 Timothy 4:8 says, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me ONLY, but unto ALL them also that love his appearing.”
And finally, remember, with FAITH, we are not limited ONLY to our own strength and abilities…YOU and I CAN walk a victorious life!!!
Matthew 21:21 – “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not ONLY do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.”
My friend, keep walking in faith,
