Today’s Bible verse to write in your journal..
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5 kjv
They say money talks. In other words, it has a huge persuasive influence, which often stems from the greed for more of it. Vanity and pride in showing off one’s wealth is just one erroneous use of money. Money is also frequently used as a tool for bribery.
I believe it’s falsely said that everyone has a “price” and can be bought. Christian men and women of real character and integrity will NOT let money have an evil influence.
The way to obtain a healthy view on money is to gather God’s perspective on what He says about it.
Below is 10 important Bible verses on money and wealth.
(This is by no means a complete study on money; I’ve simply chosen these 10 Bible verses to share with you today.)
1. Tithing is top priority. The Bible says we rob God when we do not tithe.
“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”
Proverbs 3:9 kjv
The Bible says we rob God when we do not tithe. [“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” Malachi 3:8 kjv]
*Question: We often consent to giving 10% of our income to God, but what ways can you give 10% of your time to the Lord as well?
2. There are greater things of value than silver and gold.
“How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”
Proverbs 16:16 kjv
*Question: How do you get more wisdom and understanding? (Proverbs 9:10, Proverbs 2:6, James 1:5)
3. Our testimony is more important than wealth.
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
Proverbs 22:1 kjv
*Question: What are some ways that you can strive to keep a good testimony of your Christian faith?
4. Money and wealth alone do not bring satisfaction.
“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 5:10 kjv
*Question: What are some things that bring you true joy and happiness in life that do not have monetary value?
5. When we invest our heart and labor into godly things above, we build heavenly treasures that cannot be deteriorated or ever taken away from us.
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:20,21 kjv
*Question: What are some ways that you can labor for the Lord Jesus? (Here are some good Bible verses about labor: https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Bible-Verses-About-Labor/ )
6. We have a choice to make concerning what will be our main focus in life…money or God? We cannot whole-heartily strive for both at the same time.
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24 kjv
(Mammon signifies money and riches.) There is nothing wrong with having wealth if God blesses you with such things. The issue is where we will put our main focus and energies.
*Question: What are some choices you will make concerning your goals in life that will align with these biblical principles?
7. When we give, God blesses us in return. (Here we see the principle of sowing and reaping.)
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Luke 6:38 kjv
*Question: What are some ways that you can give of your resources for God’s glory? Also check out Proverbs 19:17.)
8. We are to be cheerful givers and strive to have the right motive for giving.
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
II Corinthians 9:7 kjv
*Question: What should be your purpose in giving, and how can you please God with your giving?
9. Evil is established through the love for money.
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
I Timothy 6:10 kjv
Money itself is a necessity in life. It is not bad. But, loving money brings about evil. We will be bought for a price, losing our integrity. We will manipulate and commit unrighteous acts for more wealth when we love money. We will chose money over precious time with our family and friends when it becomes our first priority.
*Question: What are some ways that you can keep your priorities right concerning money? (Refer back to points #2, #3, #4, #5)
10. We are to be content with what we already have and not coveting the things of others.
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Hebrews 13:5 kjv
(Conversation refers to our behavior, conduct, our manner or course of life.)
*Question: What is God’s promise when you quit worrying about gaining more “stuff” or what others have that you do not? (See part C of the verse above.)
To quickly sum up today’s topic, money can be a useful tool when used in the right perspective, using God’s biblical principles. However, it’s easy to get off balance, so review these biblical principles frequently to evaluate your balance on using money. With a steadfast, dependency upon God, you can know that He will supply all your vital needs.
May God bless you and your family,
