Bringing back the memories of my childhood, my dad loved to go out on the front porch to watch a storm. I’d stand next to him and peer up into the dark sky to see the flashing lights and hear the crackling thunder — and the frightening loud booms.
Storms were exciting to my dad. Standing next to him, I’d feel secure while sharing his passion and excitement of the present storm.
Now most of you may be shaking your head, wondering why in the world my dad would be standing outside with his little girl looking at storms. But, you’ll have to forgive the looniness of the situation so that I can make a point. 🙂
What gave me the security of watching a storm was the feeling that my dad would protect me during the storm if the situation were to spiral out of control. I’m sure if the storm roused up a little too aggressive and out of control, my dad would have swiped me up and headed for shelter. I put my full trust in my dad that he was carefully watching the storm, yet alert to the fact that he had a child next to his side to protect.
We can be assured that our Heavenly Father is in control of the storms in our life. We can take comfort that He is by our side. Today, put your trust in Him to carefully watch the storms and to protect you in the moments when things get overwhelming and aggressive. When it seems like life is spiraling out of control let Him swipe you up and allow Him to be your shelter.
Here’s FIVE Encouraging Bible verses about God’s control over the storms…
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. – Psalm 107:29 KJV
And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. – Isaiah 4:6 KJV
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. – Isaiah 25:4 KJV
The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. – Nahum 1:3 KJV
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? – Mark 4:39-41 KJV
