I tell you there’s nothing so satisfying as having a second helping of my favorite dishes, such as homemade chicken and noodle soup. What’s your favorite dish that you just can’t resist but have a second serving?
While we’re encouraged as women to “watch our weight” and cut down on those extra portions, one wonderful truth is that you can feast wholeheartedly on the Word of God! In fact, feast on it continually!
Psalm 119:57 kjv says, “Thou art my portion O Lord: I have said that I would keep thy words.”
The Holy Bible is our guide and instruction Book…our own personal love letter from God.
Of course, it’s hard to keep God’s Word if we don’t know what it says because we don’t read it! We need to continually feast upon it, memorize it , and hear it.
I Peter 2:2 kjv says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
New Christians are often like sponges… they love to soak up the Word of God and desire to learn new spiritual truths. Isn’t it sad that we often let that eagerness fade away?
Wouldn’t it be great if we walked so closely to God that our friends would not be envying our new dress or new hair style, but were simply yearning for a double portion of our spiritual walk with God?
Elisha wanted a double portion…
2 Kings 2:9 kjv says, “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”
If you had one last request today, would it be for something of earthly possessions or something spiritually related?
I know my heart is convicted when I consider that question. I know that over the years, I have learned that the more I read the Word of God, the more I desire it.
I challenge you today to double your portion in the Word of God. When you do, you will grow in faith and your desires will begin to change. You will begin crave the Word of God more and more.
May God bless you and your family,
Rhonda White
